Setting up your first property

A step-by-step guide to the guided setup, from selecting your hotel to reviewing your prompts.

The guided setup takes about 10 minutes. At the end, you'll have a set of prompts that MARA tracks for your hotel. You don't need to write prompts from scratch: MARA asks you a few questions and suggests prompts based on your answers.

Step 1: Select your hotel

Search for your hotel and select it. If your group has several properties with similar names, double-check that you've picked the right one.

Step 2: Check your website

Make sure the website is your hotel's own page, not your brand's or group's homepage.

Step 3: Choose language and country

The language decides which language your prompts are written in, so choose the language most of your guests use when they search. Language and country are filled in automatically, so please check that both are correct.

Step 4: Let MARA analyse your hotel

MARA reads your website and your listings on Booking.com, Google, Expedia and TripAdvisor, and checks what AI platforms already know about your hotel. This usually takes about a minute.

Step 5: Review your hotel description

MARA writes a short description of your hotel based on this analysis. Correct anything that's wrong, such as the number of rooms or a facility you don't offer.

Step 6: Select your hotel type

Choose one or more hotel types, for example city hotel, conference hotel or hostel, or enter your own. The hotel type is used in your prompts, so pick the words a guest would actually type. If in doubt, plain "hotel" often works best.

Step 7: Set your target region

This is the most important step. Your target region is added to every prompt, for example "best hotels in central Cologne". Choose the area where you can realistically be recommended and where you want to be visible:

  • Too broad (for example a whole country or a large metropolitan area): you compete with hundreds of hotels and your visibility will be close to zero.

  • Too narrow (for example a single street): hardly any guest searches like this.

Step 8: Select your audiences

Choose the guest segments you want to attract, such as couples, families, business travellers or groups. You can also add your own.

Step 9: Add your highlights

Add the features guests actively search for, such as parking with EV charging, a spa or pet-friendly rooms. Skip features almost every hotel has, like free Wi-Fi, and features only your hotel has: you'd always be visible for them, so they don't tell you much.

Step 10: Review your prompts

MARA now suggests your prompts in three types:

  • Destination Discovery: general searches, for example "What are the best city hotels in Erfurt?"

  • Segment-specific: searches by a type of guest, for example "Which hotels in Erfurt are good for families?"

  • Need-based: searches for a specific feature, for example "Which hotels in Erfurt have EV charging?"

Edit, delete or add prompts until the list reflects what your guests really ask before they book. The number of prompts you can track depends on your plan.

Step 11: Start tracking

MARA starts running your prompts right away. Your first results appear after about 15 minutes, and your dashboard fills up as more answers come in.

Can I change things later?

Yes. You can edit, add and remove prompts in the app at any time. We recommend reviewing your prompts once your first results are in.
