How MARA creates your prompts

Where your prompts come from, the three prompt types, and why they're phrased the way they are.

Prompts are the questions MARA asks AI platforms on your behalf, for example "Which hotels in Hamburg are good for business travellers?". Your visibility score is based entirely on these prompts, so they're the most important part of your setup.

Why you don't have to write prompts yourself

When people are asked to come up with 20 or 30 prompts on a blank page, the result is often too broad ("best hotels in Germany") or too specific to ever be searched. That's why MARA uses a guided setup: you answer a few questions about your hotel and MARA suggests the prompts.

Where your prompts come from

MARA combines three sources:

  • Your website

  • Your listings on Booking.com, Google, Expedia and TripAdvisor

  • What AI platforms already know about your hotel

From this, MARA builds a short profile of your hotel. You then review and complete it in the setup: hotel type, target region, audiences and highlights. MARA turns your answers into prompts and also adds a few prompts based on further details it found on your website.

Because some suggestions are generated automatically, they can occasionally include a feature you don't offer or an audience you don't target. Simply delete those prompts.

The three prompt types

Type

What it covers

Example

Destination Discovery

General searches for a type of hotel in your region

"What are the best boutique hotels on Lake Tegernsee?"

Segment-specific

Searches by a type of guest

"Which hotels in Salzburg are good for solo travellers?"

Need-based

Searches for a specific feature or need

"Which hotels in Cologne have parking with EV charging?"

Destination Discovery prompts are usually the most competitive. Segment-specific and Need-based prompts are where smaller and independent hotels often have the best chance to be recommended.

Why many prompts start with "What are the best..."

Prompts are phrased so that the AI answers with a list of hotels. That's how guests ask for recommendations, and it lets MARA see clearly whether your hotel is named and at which position.

Why there's only one version of each question

Slightly different wordings of the same question, such as "city hotels" and "hotels in the city centre", usually lead to very similar answers. Instead of tracking several variants of one question, MARA uses your prompts to cover different topics.

Language of your prompts

Your prompts are written in the language you choose in the setup. Pick the language most of your guests use when they search.
