Understanding Your MARA Insights

Mara Score, Impact Score & Chance for Improvement

Updated over 3 weeks ago

MARA gives you a simple, clear view of your online reputation across all platforms. Here's what each score means and how you can use it to improve.

1. MARA Score

Your MARA Score is the average of your ratings across all connected platforms, shown on a standard 5-point scale.

Why it matters:

Different platforms use different rating systems. MARA puts them all on the same scale, so you can easily track and compare your performance.

Example:

  • A 4-star rating on Google stays 4.0.

2. Impact Score

The Impact Score shows how much a specific category or topic is influencing your overall rating positively or negatively.

How it works:

MARA detects where a topic is mentioned and compares the average rating of those reviews to your overall average.

Formula:

Impact Score =
(Average Rating of Topic Reviews – Overall Rating) × (Topic Mentions ÷ Total Reviews)

Example:

  • 100 total reviews

  • 20 mention housekeeping

  • Average rating of those 20 reviews = 3.9

  • Overall rating = 4.2

  • Impact = (3.9 - 4.2) × (20 ÷ 100) = -0.06

This means reviews mentioning housekeeping are slightly dragging your score down.

A negative Impact Score = this topic lowers your average
A positive Impact Score = this topic boosts your average

3. Chance for Improvement

The Chance for Improvement tells you how much your overall rating could increase if you address negative feedback in a specific area. While the Impact Score includes positive and negative reviews, this measure focuses at negative reviews and their impact on your rating.

Formula:

Chance for Improvement =
(Overall Avg. Rating – Avg. Rating of Negative Topic Reviews) × (Negative Mentions ÷ Total Reviews)

Example:

  • 100 total reviews

  • 10 mention housekeeping negatively

  • Average of those 10 = 2.5

  • Overall average = 4.2

  • Chance for improvement = (4.2 - 2.5) × (10 ÷ 100) = 0.17

This means fixing your issues with housekeeping could raise your score by up to 0.17 points.

A higher number = greater opportunity for improvement, when addressing issues in this area.
